While 46% of the emerging cyberattacks target small and medium-sized businesses, in Greece but also worldwide, there is an increase in incidents of cybercrime and personal data breaches. The need for robust cybersecurity strategies and more resilient systems is a priority for the European Commission, especially in critical infrastructure such as energy, health and transport. The University of Western Macedonia, through its participation in European research and development projects, such as Horizon Europe, has developed innovative tools to protect infrastructure and services by leveraging modern technologies such as artificial intelligence, federated learning, dynamic resource orchestration and blockchain architectures. Sustainable urban mobility for liveable cities – the potential contribution of bike share
17:00
18:00
In an era where urban mobility plays a crucial role in the quality of life in our cities, we have to discuss the sustainable benefits and challenges of non-car transport. As populations continue to urbanize and environmental concerns grow, the adoption of bike-sharing systems becomes increasingly imperative. These systems not only promote sustainable transportation but also foster a sense of community among city residents. Other cities in Europe have demonstrated the feasibility and success of bike-sharing initiatives on an international scale. Meanwhile, cities like Thessaloniki hold great potential for implementing similar systems, leveraging their unique urban landscapes and increasing demand for sustainable transportation options. Speaker: Mr. Prodromos Nikoforidis, (City of Thessaloniki, Deputy Mayor for Technical Works, Environment and Sustainable Mobility), Mr. Jhon Alexander Ramirez Ospina, (nextbike, Regional General Manager South-West Europe), Moderation: Mr. Matthias Kohler, (City of Leipzig, Advisor to the Deputy Mayor for General Services). The intense research activity of the group began in the academic year 2022-2023 with the implementation of the first experimental protocols. The presence of the "Histologistas" research group in the academic field is evident with strong participation in both Greek and international scientific conferences. The presence in the academic community is completed by the publication of numerous papers in globally recognized journals with a high impact factor and appearance in PubMed, with the first as a research group to be published in February 2024. "The process of writing research papers gets an upgrade"
18:00
19:00
Research projects have long been a fundamental component of a student`s academic journey and a critical driver of innovation and research within universities. Despite the rapid advancement of technology, the process of writing a thesis, dissertation, or research paper has largely remained static, failing to fully leverage the opportunities that modern tools can provide. In light of this, we invite you to participate in an interactive discussion and walkthrough of the thesis, dissertation, and research paper process using the eThesis tool. This presentation will explore the process from the perspective of both faculty and students, beginning with the posting of proposed topics and continuing through the selection of the most suitable candidate. We will also examine how students choose a topic and identify the appropriate supervising professor. Additionally, we will highlight the collaborative spaces within the tool, where all parties involved can engage in proposal reviews and assignment implementation. Finally, we will demonstrate the tool`s multi-user functionality, enabling its use by research teams and grading committees, thereby enhancing the overall research process. Citizens` budget is a modern means of achieving citizens` accessibility to the State Budget in the sense that it can be understood by them. A citizen`s budget is a non-technical presentation, either of the draft budget or of the voted budget, which communicates to the general public the government`s options for collecting revenues and making them available to citizens, through the realization of public expenditures, and whose main characteristic is that it is designed to be understood by as large a section of the population as possible. In terms of its structure, the citizens` budget, which will be presented by the aforementioned research group, contains five parts related to the introduction, macroeconomic forecasts, the basic fiscal figures, i.e. income and expenditure, public debt and innovations of the Budget, i.e. expenditure reviews and performance budgeting. We hope that the summary presentation of the citizens` budget for 2024 at the 88th TIF will achieve the intended goal of our research group, i.e. improving the transparency of the budget, facilitating public dialogue regarding the Government`s fiscal priorities and controlling its accountability Government in relation to meeting its commitments, as reflected in the State Budget for 2024.
