A global organization with Japanese roots and a presence in more than 130 countries, it employs more than 47,000 people worldwide.

JTI has been operating in Greece for more than four decades, offering some of the most popular brands in the market. In winter 2023, it introduced the innovative Ploom X device to adult consumers in Greece, making the country one of the first 10 markets worldwide to launch the product. In November 2025, Ploom Aura, its most advanced tobacco and nicotine stick heating device, was launched in the Greek market.

Since 2018, the historic SEKAP manufacturing facility in Xanthi has been part of the JTI family. Since then, the company has continued to invest in the facility, with more than USD 47 million invested in its modernization and the expansion of its production capacity. Today, the factory exports 74% of its production to eight EU markets, strengthening Greece’s outward orientation.

In Greece, JTI directly employs more than 300 people in a high-standard working environment that is consistently recognized as one of the best in the Greek market. It also supports the primary sector through the steady annual purchase of significant quantities of high-quality Greek tobacco, supporting thousands of growers and their families. At the same time, JTI continues to invest in the country and in Greek talent through its Global Customer Service Hub in Athens, which, with more than 240 employees, supports 17 markets worldwide.

JTI Greece contributes approximately 1% of total tax revenues annually and approximately 25% of revenues from the Excise Tax on tobacco products.

For JTI, investment and business growth go hand in hand with its role as a responsible corporate citizen.

In support of the State, JTI has entered into two active Memoranda of Cooperation with the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) and the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (DAOE) to combat the illicit trade in tobacco products, a significant threat to the economy and society.

Supporting the communities in which it operates, JTI is committed to helping local people and places thrive. The company created Athens’ first Japanese Park and, in January 2026, handed over to the City of Thessaloniki the Japanese Water Garden at the city’s New Waterfront. Since the creation of both projects, JTI has undertaken and continues to be responsible for their maintenance.

With particular focus on Xanthi, in 2025 JTI delivered a comprehensive fire protection and fire safety project for the city’s peri-urban woodland.
